Need to setup a Go Fund Me page for the trucker to help fund his legal fees fighting a possible career ending ticket, due to an idiot snowmobiler parked in the middle of a major highway.

semi plows into snowmobile

That sledder is as much st fault for pissing round in the middle of a two lane Hwy.

At least truck wasn't travelling fast enough to completely destroy him.

[QUOTE=gtrussell;755950]Good thing you drive on the east side of the province.[/This is where u fall under the slow learner category! The truck driver drove around the barricade and he is at fault!
Even though the sledder was working in cooperation with RM and local fire dept doesn't give him the right to act irresponsibly! He is also responsible for his accident!

How do you know he wasn't stuck on hwy then got out? The sledder is half at fault. He should consider himself lucky that his little move didn't cost him his life. And so should the trucker.

Ever drive a semi on the hwy?

I believe that is what he was charged for was going around the barricades. And if I am correct they close highways down to prevent more people getting stranded and that rescue efforts can be conducts safely, whether it be rcmp, volunteer firefighters or general public helping out. And no I have never driven a semi on a hwy , but I have probably logged on more highway miles than him. Bad weather get off the highway!

Correct bad weather get off the hwy. including machines that aren't aloud on it in the first place.

Did someone see the truck pass baracades? Or they just assume because he was on the other side of them? I'm not saying he isn't at fault either but the sledder needs to take his part of responsibility for spinning round in the middle of a two lane major hwy in a blizzard.

He's being charged with going around barricades. That tells me he admitted to it, or was caught.

RCMP were literally phoning people with snowmobiles to go and help. So that kind of gives them a right to be out there....

yeah, spinning around wasn't a great idea. but I'm tired of people saying they shouldn't have even been there in the first place. Blows my mind how people can be so against helping stranded motorists.

I'm saying he didn't belong doing a loop on the busiest hwy in Manitoba during a white out. I'm not saying he didn't belong helping those people. Just because he was helping someone doesn't negate what he did. Spinning around wasn't a great idea like you said. You need to read my post. I didn't say he had no business being there. I said he had no business pissing around on a closed two lane hwy in the middle of a white out.

"That tells you"....in my mind that means that your assuming. In a truck a dot officer can give you a ticket if he believes you were somewhere illegally. Without proof.
He could have also parked his sled in the ditch or on the crossroad not on the shoulder. The trucker shouldn't have been driving but the sledder shouldn't have been in the middle of the hwy messing around. So you tell me why it was legal for the sledder do spin out in the middle of that hwy. if you can't then he broke the law and is fault as well.

I not asking this to be a-hole what is the actual charge in manitoba for going around barricade ? Is it actually worded going around barricade on closed highway or dangerous driving? I just never heard of this charge not saying it not there just curious what it called

Plus, if truck has tracking system, would that not say where truck was at what time??
Both are at fault, just adding my 2 cents.

In the blizzard of 86 and 97 all major roads were shut down and all roads and city streets were opened to off road vehicles snowmobiles giving them right of way if they were involved in rescue missions. Not sure what the charges are for going around a barrier but it is illegal.

I'm sure giving them the right of way didn't include travelling down them. More like crossing. An def not doing a spin for fun on one lane.

I don't believe the sledders shouldn't have been out there! Hats off to them for helping out! In the reports I have seen there is nothing about RCMP contacting these sledders just that they were working in cooperation with RM and local Fire Dept.
They used poor judgment in entering the highway and that's on them. Fortunately they were never killed!
I wonder why the injured sledder can't file a claim with mpic through personal injury program instead of a gofundme page if trucker was 100% at fault?
The police can download ecm of semi and it will tell them how fast he was going at the time of accident. It will also tell them when he left Brandon.
