Thinking about getting my class 1

So I'm about to start collecting EI in a few weeks and o am really considering getting my class 1. For almost my entire life I wanted to get it but always had decent employment so I never bothered. But I am wanting to do it now ,but will EI help pay for it ? I can't get any answers on the Government of Canada site . Any help would be appreciated

If you were just laid off because of lack of work I wouldn’t expect them to pay. If it was because of medical issues or something I could see it.

The idiots that let me go said in a letter it was due to my medical issues ,but on my ROE they listed it as lack of work/lay off . Flipping idiots. Get your story straight

That makes no sense. It shouldn’t matter on their part for ei sake unless you wanted to go after them and in which case you have a letter anyway so.

I know it makes no sense. If they just wanted to let me go, then why give me a letter saying it's because of medical issues . They're idiots

I’m sure there is a tax break thinking you may get 80% of the cost back, or something like that. Call United Transport Driver Training, they will know for sure

I got my class 1 through EI in the spring of 2000. At that time the course cost about $3500 and EI payed $2500 and I got a short term loan from my local credit union for the rest. I’ve been driving ever since

Hey xcr700

Reason they posted shortage of work, that way they could lay you off ...
Had it been a medical thing.. they would have had to retrain you and so
they knew which road they needed to take ...

Companies are not willing to retrain and so they will drop you as fast as ever
so that they can save on benefits

Sorry for the lay off from work
