I have a hero 4 that I have tried to use while snowmobiling without luck.

If I dont start it and leave running as soon as I'm leaving the battery will be too cold and shut off. If I warm the camera up it works fine. I determined that its the camera being too cold cuz I attempt to charge and it shows fully charged.

Anyone else have this problem? How do you fix it cuz basically it's of no use if I cant use it when I want to and have to leave running at all times.

Rather frustrated with it to be honest

its not your camera its the battery that's the problem.
$120k Tesla electric cars with lithium batteries having same troubles. 400 mile range my arse.

Only solution is to keep your batteries warm until you want to use them. At -20c I'm told on lithium batteries only 1/2 to 1/3 voltage available for use. So your camera will power down quickly or maybe not even power up if fully charged battery is cold.

options:
- rig up the camera so it runs off sled power versus battery power. Most will use a weather proof/water proof case so you need to cut the case to get the plug into the camera as case never built to have hard power to the camera. get the voltage rights though

- what I did was add a BRP 3 watt heater to back of camera housing and run it off my heated visor connection that way I did not have to cut up the camera housing. I use a CGX2 camera and pad to back of camera case works. A $20 fix and didn't have to fart up any special electrics or cut the waterproof case.

Had the same problem with a Hero 3. The camera wouldn't operate if it was too cold. Even with batteries that were in my chest pocket it wouldn't power on if the camera was too cold. I ended up returning it and getting a Sony Action Cam. Works much better in the cold.
