04.5 500 Dead

Hey guys is there any fuses or fuses links on my machine? The batt is fully charged and good, but no power. No power on the speedo no headlights, nothing. Took the batt right out and hooked up booster cables from my truck to the cables and nothin. Strange thing is the fan will come on when hooked up to my truck. Key off and out but fan still turns on. Any ideas? I'm stumped!!!

I've got a 04 sportsman and had a similar problem, it's most likely one of the circuit breakers in underneath the front rack. They are heat shrinkwrap sealed so you need to cut them open but I'm guessing one of them is corroded. Piston Ring carries the circuit breakers so don't pay top dollar for a polaris one

sure power module is toast, older fellow in town here had this happen twice to his machine, swap for a new one and works perfect. PN 2203348 from polaris.

If its the ECU or CDI or ECM or what ever this one is called, it is likely pooched and is a recall on 04 to 07 model sportsmans. When they go, they can cause all different symptoms, like winch not working, intermittent AWD, or completely dead, etc etc. I replaced mine in my old 500 twice and in my 0ld 400 once. In fact, the dealer that changed it for my the 1st time had non in stock so he started pulling them out of brand new crated machines, he pulled out 3 or 4 before he found one that worked right with his test equipment.

I changed out the ECM first thinking that it was the problem, but it didn't solve all the issues. I would still get complete power failure to the pod, 4x4, headlights and starter however the fan would still run. The bike would run fine if pull started. It took changing out a corroded circuit breaker to fix it.

Hey Guys! Thanks for all of your help. ongreen actually had a spare ECM and service manual that he let me use. Here is another one for you Rubberdown, in the manual they are also refered to as SSBC,s, but the Main common name is ECM.
Long story short... put the ECM/SSBC in and it fired right up. Thank you guys again and thank you ongreen for PM'n me!
Cheers Guys, Happy Motoring
Duke
