I was last there in 1993, so I'm guessing some things are the same, but lots has changed. That's why I suggested trip advisor. Back in the day before the "machines", all we had were the good old CAA books with printed info, no pictures, and we just winged it on a hope and a prayer.
Good luck, and happy trails!!

Its been a while for me, But the usual Sturgis, deadwood, lead, keystone. Needles highway was a nice drive. And If I remember south end of the black hills at the reservoir there was some beaches / swimming. Mount rush more is obvious. And close to mount rushmore was a weird think dry water slide riding a skate board. Patio up top with beers and burger, take the chair lift up, and the little cart thing down. Been there a couple times, always fun.

Rushmore tramways its called, yeah its a huge tourist trap but fun.

We checked out reptile gardens and bear country USA. Was neat to drive thru and go watch baby bears and wolves.
We did the wildlife loop, checked out deadwood, Mount Rushmore, crazy horse.

chillywilly is on a distinguished road
If not claustrophobic the caves are so cool we did two of them on our visit. One is a look and no touch one in a national park. You take a elevator down to it. And the other one you crawl through and can touch stuff.

we snowmobile the area often.

For food on the main street their is a brewery called fireman or fire horse. Its right in the core in an old converted fire station. Combo restaurant / brew house.
Food was v.g., fairly cheap and atmosphere sure a lot better than chain joints. I hate cookie cutter type of joints and buffets.

The other is called Tully Silver Spoon and is about 1 block away from the Fire
Horse. Breakfasts were outstanding and more than just the standard fair. A high end start to the day.
