Crankshaft main bearing

you need to check the bronze bushing / bearing in the left hand center case where the crank gets the oil from. too much clearance and it loses oil pressure to the rod bearing. You can't buy new ones from Kawasaki but some places sell a aftermarket one so you don't have to buy $900 cases. Check that clearance before you put the new crank in!

Some say you can get a new bearing but Kawie says its machined to the correct thrust or end play with the crank and wants you to replace the case. Seems excessive..anyway those that spun were said to have happened because the the tolerance/gauge depleted because of expansion from excessive heat. Others have had them go loose because of water and grit in the oil. The cure for the heat problem is an oil cooler. This dumps 160 degree oil through that bearing and crank keeping expansion down. Good for rod bearings too...along with everything else. Without it the Brute's oil temps exceed 248..which as you know is way over any builder's specs...

yup, same as i said about the bearing, there is an aftermarket one you can put in but it has to be machined to the crank!

if your rod bearings are gone then so is your crank, how were the cams in the heads, any scoring on either the cam or the journal? any flaking on the cam?

the one i am putting the bb into is getting the new bushing and machining, oil cooler and rad relocate, can't be too safe with the hot running brutes, oh ya when the red light comes on its extremly hot/too late, put in a temp gauge!
