crossfire 700 problem

Buddy has a 07 crossfire 700 that revs to around 3500 4000 but then dies out. Any ideas?

I have been busy working so haven't had time to tear into it yet, figured I would look for some hints prior to starting on it.

Thanks ahead of time

Also check wire connector on fuel pump wire. My F7 did same thing and the connector was green and corroded. Cut it out and soldered it and good to go!

Oh my… could be so many things so start with the basics.
- Compression test
- Run some gasoline anti freeze
- Switch out the fuel to premium non ethanol
- Check plug condition (color and gap) for hints and replace
- Check intake for air leaks
- Check exhaust for air leaks
- Check valves for adjustment and sticking
- Check spark plug caps/wires for cracks and replace
- Check ignition coils and swap out with new
- Check ignition and kill switch wiring for shorts or faults
- Check electrical connections and clean / repack with di-electric grease
- Check grounds
- Check and adjust ignition timing if possible
- Check fuel system flow, replace filters if appropriate through entire system
- Check engine and exhaust airflows (filters and paths for mice, etc…) for restrictions in and out of the engine.

Thanks for the replies guys. So I now hear that this has happened after he removed his handlebar risers.

I still haven't had a chance to look at it yet but should be able to early next week. I am thinking possibly he has the throttle position wrong or left something disconnected?

So did a bunch of work to the sled but as buddy pulled up his check engine light came on. It's still on since repairing wires.

Does anyone know how to get codes off the sled to troubleshoot?

So I found out that too get the codes u count the number of times the check engine light flashes. Unfortunately I think this is a fairly tough one this time as I found some wires that were no good. Still never fixed the issue and it runs like crap still.
