84 polaris 440 indy trail

I have a an 84 polaris 440 indy trail that will run all day long on ether, but as soon as I put fuel in the tank it won't start, doesnt get fuel. I put the fuel line that goes to the fuel pump into a gas can and it ran on that. Any suggestions as to where I should check next as there is snow on the ground and I'm getting anxious to go sledding. Any help is much appreciated

The fuel pick up line could broken off, or the filter could be plugged inside the tank. I would replace the line, as you said it will run out of a jug. Good luck.

Check your fuel pump diaphrams and pulsatin lines. We stock those parts for the Mikuni pumps and carbs.

Take off the fuel line entering the carb and suck, if you have fuel its not plugged , if you don't, loosen tank filler cap and blow some compressed air down that line until you hear bubbles, than try sucking fuel up the line again, reconnect to carb( tighten all clamps) and try to fire it up

Just tried that, got fuel to carbs, but now it don't want to fire, it flooded out. I'm gonna wait a bit to try again

In his first post he said it would run if he used a jug as a fuel supply. Unless something has changed, I would see if I could get it to run that way again. If it does run this way again, it proves you have a blocked line from the tank.

Idk if it was plugged or not. I took the cap off the tank and blew air into the tank, causing the motor to flood. I'll try running it with can from a jug again tomarrow.

I think you misread my post, remove line from carb, blow compressed back toward tank not blow air into tank

Yep, I misread. I took the line off the pump, and blew air into the tank.

Ok I got to it to get fuel to the carbs all by itself. Line in tank was clogged. Now another problem has surfaced, it won't fire. I didn't get new plugs for it yet , cause the parts store was sold out (just my luck). I'm gon a try cleaning the crap out of the ones in it, and see what happens. Any other suggestions?

The plugs may be fowled. If that is the case you may not be able to get spark that you can see. Wait on new ones.

The plugs were fouled out. I cleaned them with low grit same paper until they were shiny, and still won't fire

Pay attention

As mentioned, if they are fowled badly, they are garbage. Try new ones. You are making things more difficult for yourself than need be.lol

Worth a shoot, put them on the stove like this and get 'em hot, really hot, than with a pair of mitts install the hot plugs in sled and pull , if you want to try it old school... Leave out mitts.. Lol
