2005 550 stator

Anyone know how to test the stator on a 2005 classic touring 550 fan and what specs should be?

Sled runs fine till it gets hot then it loses spark. If the sled is left to sit 2-3 hours it will fire back up and go again till it gets hot then dies.

I changed the coil and it didn't make a difference which leads me to think its the stator.

Any other possibilities?

Thanks, Shane

disconnect your harness to the stator, get your multimeter and set to Ohms, then follow the chart that the Rabbit posted. Stick one probe in one wire colour of the harness and the other stick in the other wire colour and read your ohms on the display. May not be bang on to what is on the chart, but should be very very close.

Check is stone cold, and record the readings. Then warm it up until it causes the trouble and quickly test then.

I had an old xc with the common stator issue, tested fine cold, warm and even hot. Once you got a warmer day, and it heat soaked the motor real good it would loose spark. I ended up with the stator on the bench testing and heating with a heat gun. Finally when it was to the point I couldn't touch it the circuit would go open. I actually found the wire that was broken on the pickup. I was able to repair, and that one ran another 5000 miles on that stator, then I sold it.
