Another noob looking for a sled

Never ridden one before but i want to buy a sled. Been mainly looking at arctic cat and ski-doo not dead set on anything just had a friend that had real bad luck with 2 yamaha sleds and have yet to hear anything great about polaris. Budget would be 4k max and i figure most sled should be gone thru before winter so been looking at sleds priced low 3000. Im in Iowa. Know very little about sleds. But i want to stay away from a turbo.

what kind of riding do you want to do? mountain? trail? mixture of both? jumping and ditch banging? you want rip your arms off power? i just bought a 2010 sno pro 500 and i like it so far. i came off a 2003 f5 and its a tottaly different feeling. the 03 was way faster but couldnt touch the sno pro hitting jumps.
4 stroke or 2 stroke? do you think you willbe putting lots of miles on in a year? if so id go for a 4 stroke. 4 stroke is less maitnence, no adding oil. its just like a car put gas in a drive. very reliable but are very heavy and when they do break they are ussualy more money to fix then a 2 stroke. 2 strokes are lighter and have that wicked 2 stroke oil smell lol. require more maintenance and cant be held wide open for long periods of time compared to a 4 stroke.

if i was you id wait till there was a bit of snow so you can test drive a bunch of different sleds to get the feel for what you like. its hard to buy a machine without riding it and especially when you haven't ridden one before.
if you have any more questions dont be shy to ask. lots of help on this site

If your looking for bang for the buck just getting in. The old zx chassis ski-doo can be had for cheap now, and the 600's are great motors. I know you werent looking at polaris but nobody can deny an edge chassis with a 600 or 500 ves are great running, riding, reliable and tough machines. I would lean away from the 800 and 700 since its more common for motor issues on them.
I have no real knowledge on cats.

Sled are like cars they lose a lot of value with the first few hours. I refuse to buy a new sled.

I would rather have a 2 stroke. I think i could read.apart a 2cycle and put it.back together with a little help the first time.

Will mainly be for ditch riding. But if i could get a week off and some friends to go i would not be afraid to travel.

In that price range and due to the fact you like Arctic Cat, get a Firecat 600 or Crossfire 600 or F6. That motor is bullet proof. I've had a 600 cylinder for sale for 2 years and can't sell it.

You should be able to pick up a rev chassis ski-doo and the sdi 600 engines are good,i have an 05 with almost 11,000 kms and very little trouble. They are great on fuel and the rev chassis is comfortable for ditch banging...
