Download the manual from the link posted above. It will tell you everything there is to know about and how to trouble shoot and fix your 400 bomb.

Thanks for the Manual. I need to change a rear axel boot on a 05 outlander 400. Anything I need to watch out for?

inner or outer boot? The inner is the worst, the outter not too bad. I managed to get my axle out without dropping the swing arm...but not fun....I also couldn't get my swing arm off....so it was a no choice deal anyway.

Good luck and MAKE SURE WHEN YOU PUT THE CV BACK ON THE AXLE IT LOCKS INTO THE CLIP!!! ...very ugly when they pop out 20 miles down the trail!

Its the inner boot. I was hoping to hear the words "piece of cake" but alas it was not to be. I appreciate the info, I will be careful about the re install. (probably be bleeding buckets before i'm done)

ya, well the main thing is...or at least when my inner boot went....DO NOT TAKE THE INNER CV OUT OF THE DIFF.....mine was locked in and I've heard when they do come out...it can be ugly....just as easy to do the whole thing on the bike, just make sure you pry the "C" clip open..pull the shaft, clean ecerything real good and then slip the new boot on...put the shaft and joint back together, making sure it's clipped in real good and put the boot back on with the grease in it.

Not as bad as it sounds....but I did tons of axle boots before I ever touched one on a quad...

The manuals have since been removed from that website.
Does anyone know of another place to find them?

Found a manual available for free download here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N6OSFM0W

Looks like a decent manual but I haven't had time to really go through it.

EDIT: Just had a look through it, it's the Can-Am factory service manual....JACKPOT!!

How about a CD with the service manual on it. When I had my Traxter I had printed out the whole manual because it was like haveing a set in the shop but have since traded Traxter off and I gave the printed manual to my Brother who also has a Traxter. Mine was a 2002 as well and there was very little to no differance from 1999 to 2002. if you are interested, send me a PM.

I have added everything I could find so far to my snowmobile site. I will try and fix up a ATV section in the future. For now:

http://www.vintagesnow.com/ATV

Everything is free for personal use. They are not for resale.
