Travelling to Derby's
Quote:
One other thing is, most of the riders at these derby's are local folks and are not willing to travel as far as some here, then it even looks worse when someone makes a list and you see how many there are that you would like to try that you might not have even known that were happening until you find these kind of sites. We pretty much have stuck with the ones closet to home for the last few years, but now we are starting to say "hey, lets try ________, we have done the ones here so lets try something new." Now we have a few more people that we have met from the derby's (and here) and we meet up with them at new derby's (planned or accidental) or plan a ride. That is how we met Maxter and dragged him out tracking this winter.

Travelling to Derby's
Just thought I would start this for any discussion regarding how you get to derby's or why, how far you might be willing to travel, or what is the farthest you have traveled to do a derby, do you camp....etc or post up a picture of your hauling rig.
I moved a post in here from the Carberry forum to get it started.

We do, and have done a lot of travelling to ride many different areas. So far we have been to B.C. to ride with Mongrol in the kootenay Mtn. range, Alberta riding the CrowsNest pass, Sask.(Moose Mtn. Spyhill, Gerald, Rocanville, and a few others) All across southern Manitoba (from the Duck Mtns. to Marchand), North Dakota (Black Hills) and Arizona. It is nice to meet others who have the same interest. We have so many more places planned to go visit and ride. Ontario through to NewBrunswick and Newfoundland, Yukon, Alaska, Wisconsin, and West Coast USA. I figure we will be busy for the next 10 years trying out new places. This retirement is going to be a blast
![]() Outside of fuel expenses the other biggest cost was accommodations. Since we like to travel and ride so much we are looking at getting a travel trailer that we can tow along. That is why we now have a truck with a sled deck. It works great.

I have to make a note here about "dragging" Mr & Mrs. Maxter out.... I don't think it was really a "drag".... it was more, we are going riding and he said "what time?" .lol

so how do you guys get to derby's....and how far will you go or have you gone.
We went you to the Weekes/Somme area in SK a couple of times from where we are in Gerald and one year rented a cabin at Greenwater Park, the next time I took my camper for home base, and other tented it or slept in there truck(Cutarm - short people can do that) or in their enclosed trailers. Had a blast up there. It was about 300 Kms. I think I the bar had a good take that weekend. ![]()
