I would check the stator.

Could be that or the CDI. If you look in the 3 wheeler section I posted a link where you can download the service manuals for all three wheelers.

I also switched out the cdi unit from the other 3 wheeler witch i now was working cause when u bought it the guy said the carb was all screwed and that was the only problem with the 1984 200s,... and to Greg guy the kill switch is just fine it worked before this problem 5 years ago... lol and it probably is the stator cable it is the original cable lol

no spark

had this problem last year, went up one side, down the other on my big red, turned out it was the stater, however I only bought the capacitor and took the old one out and saltered the new one in. Stater was close to 500.00 from honda, capacitor was 65.00, started right away, couldn't believe it. Hope this helps.

Yes you can buy just the exciter coil in the stator now.

Buddy that bought my 82 Atc 200 just bought one $27 from a dealer. Not worth the oem one when all you have to do is a little bit of soldering and you are set.

Check the manual it will tell you how to test the stator with a ohm meter. I cant remember right off the top of my head but I have done it before.

Usually Stator, but first a few questions. do you have a flywheel puller? you will need one to change the stator (if that's what the problem is). Do you have a Ohm meter? To check the stator your Ohms must be between 150 Ohms to no more than 400 Ohms. To check it ,you must unplug the connection on the frame (just across from the Fuel shut off). It has a black sleeve cover you have to pull back and it's the one wire that's by itself and the other is anywhere on the motor or ground it on a frame bolt.

My personal choice is a Rickystator stator. I've used other cheap stators and end up replacing then a year or two later. www.rickystator.com

yes, its called an exciter coil. And yes we used a ohm meter, one with a needle, not digital, I believe it specified in the clymer manual on where to put the leads and what setting to have it on. Showed how to check ignition coil, and stator. But check all the usual things, fuses, loose wires, sounds stupid, but you never know!
