Insurance Rates <what Do You Pay?

Hey rubberdown didn't want to hijack your thread so just starting one to see what kind of rates people are paying. Got my renewal today and it just keeps going up and up every year. Started in 02 with the co-operators @ $422/yr house and $317 buisness now i,m at $705h/723b WTF!! House is nothing fancy 1359sq ft no basement and i have barebones coverage on my tools. So should i just suck it up or are there going to be better rates out there?

insurance

my buddy works at MIG and could give you a few quotes and ideas to bring cost down (ie: non-smoker, alarm, higher deductable, claim free discount, age discount and more) even if his price is the same his service is the best. send me a PM if you would like a quote. i say buddy, but only met him through a referral from my boss at work and haven't looked back

We pay around a grand a year for the basic insurance on a 1900 sq ft home in Winnipeg. With the extras of some scheduled jewellery, it comes up to around $1400 / yr with Intact. I think I pay around $300 on top of that for a home based business.

Are there some special circumstances that resulted in the unusually high deductable? That sure isn't the norm.

Do you self a favor and stop dealing with local companies.

TD Insurance - its based out of Edmonton - they have adjusters here if something does go wrong.
No matter what you have, Im very confident that TD will beat any local quote.

They have the best coverage as well. I have FREE 50,000 basement flood coverage... thats just for starters...

Cause of my distance to a fire hall / my out building and pool - I pay 1780 for a blanket million
The cheapest any local insurance was 2200.00

Best part about TD Insurance, their increases are national not local. Which means, when there is a natural disaster ALL TD customers pay, where local companies jack the rates 20-30% to recover. I have been with TD insurance for 9 yrs now and my biggest increase was 2%

Out my way $1500 w/$1000 deductible (I chose to do this for a lower rate), 1200 sq ft house with full basement, 60' x 30' attached shop (w/wood heat which cost me more), plus 12' x 24' attached toy room (for sleds & quads). This is full replacement value, and I get reduced rate for being claim free, and old (LOL). It has been going up every year and not making me happy. Thinking about shopping around for next year.

As the cost of replacing a building has risen substantially over the last 10 years, so does the price of the policy. There is a push on in the insurance industry to make sure appraisals of replacement cost are up do date. It costs more to replace than to build initially.

Be carful with this one, as from what I have been told many companys have this coverage.... oh but you live in a flood plain, this doesn't apply in your location.
I wonder why what everyone pays makes any difference, as everyones insurance covers different homes, of different values. Like comparing the price of gas to the price of water. There are so many variables dictating costs any meanful comparisons are very difficult to form to put it mildly.

Yes Im aware of the false promise with a back door clause to get out of it... but I asked them to specify and even showed my commercial insurance broker, he was impressed and said he couldnt touch my house policy.
Its worth the 20 minute annoying 1000 question phone call. All the questions they ask are for your own protection. They offer the blanket 1 mill coverage and want to make sure that is enough...

I would like to revive a fading thread with a couple questions. Here's a little background info:
Sold our house in La Broquerie. Moving to Marchand (We weren't close enough to the trails we love, Lol!).
I have never made a claim on house insurance and don't plan to.
Have dealt with Red River in the past. Left them when their rates skyrocketed after the flood of 97. Switched to Portage Mutual and rates have stayed fairly steady ever since.
I have used Harvest Insurance in Steinbach for my broker since moving to MB 18 years ago.
Here's the question:
Went for a quote for the new house last night. One company stood out being a few hundred cheaper annually. MAX Canada Insurance, run by Mennonites like several others. Faith based and using their profits to further their cause. Seems better than a few fat cat directors lining their pockets. Has anyone used them for residential insurance? Any and all feedback would be appreciated!

I think I'm around $800 for my house. I am through Wawenesa. If they were twice the price of anyone else I would still deal with them. Absolutely the best insurance company I have ever dealt with as far as claims go.
