4th Annual Birch River Atv Poker Derby
It's that time a year again, and we would like to welcome everyone back for our 4th annual Fathers weekend derby in Birch River MB. This year it will be on Saturday June 16/12 to help accomodate everyone who could not make it on our previous Sunday dates. As usual they will be great prizes and all Drivers receive a free BBQ buffet as part of their registration. Registration is, Drivers 3 hands for $20 and Ghost rider are $5 for 1 hand. I will try and get a copy of the ghost rider sheet on here for everyone to print off. There is the breakfast buffet from 9am to 12pm. Registration is from 11am to 1pm and BBQ starts at 3pm. Now if you haven't been to this event then you are missing a great Scenic Mountain Trail that is prepared for both the Heavy Duty Mudders and the bypasses for the Family Trail Riders. So keep an eye on this thread because I am sure that there will be people on to tell you how great this derby is. As well this year we will again have the card picking along the trail just like in the good old days. Any question you can contact Mike at 236-4628 in the evenings or email at BRL4496@yahoo.ca
We will see you all soon Birch River Legion Last edited by cinder1701; 04-19-2012 at 04:05 PM. |

Approximately 40 kms North of Swan River on Hwy 10. Lots of good accomodations in Swan River. These folks put on a great derby every year. Anyone that was up here this winter will know the area. Come up and check it out.

Here is google maps with Birch River as the starting point. http://maps.google.ca/?ll=52.271519,...705383&t=m&z=9 .In case that doesn't We are located about 2 hours north of Dauphin on the number 10 hwy and just 20 min north of Swan River. For hotels there are quite a few. Some hotels are Super 8 (1-800-800-8000), West Wood Inn (734-4548), Thunder Hill Motel (734-4104). There is also Primrose park, located just outside of Birch, which has small camper and tent camping and Bell and Steep Rock Lake that has room for large fifth wheels an toy haulers as well as great pickeral and pike fishing and is located about 40 minutes up the porcupine mountains from Birch River.

How long of a trail is it? And I know it says family trail riders, But is this suitable on and average year for a 2wd sport quad? Ruts are no issue since both my sports have IRS. Its the constant mud and deep water that scare me off.

All water/mud holes have bypasses; would have np with a sport quad. AWESOME DERBY! Its a must do!

The trail, if you ride hard can be done in about 2 hours but most enjoy it and take about 3.5 hours to take in the sites. registration starts at 11am and you dont have to be back until 4pm so you have lots of time.

Sounds awesome. If I can just convince to old man, he loves sledding up there also and this should be a nice change from sledding the area. Either way I might still make the drive for this one.

Here is the link to our new facebookpage where you can find a copy of the ghost rider sheets so that you can get a head start on rounding up those extra hands. http://www.facebook.com/groups/431754163520190/members/

I was up on the trail Thursday and even in this dry season that we are having we still have some nice mud holes (got stuck twice) that will keep all those mudders happy and if this weather persists, we will pop some dams and open up the low road which only the super mudders brave in regular times. Also this year because we have heard the cries of the people, we are having our own signs made up so things will be properly marked so there will be no confusion.

Alright, here is your weekend update on the trail. Went up Sunday to make the final bypass trails(unless it keeps raining) so all we have left is the one bridge and we are good to go. Amazing what 6 inches a rain can do to a trail. So mudders get ready because the mountain is.

A group of us went down the low trail (hoping its marked for the derby) up to fay's on sat. WOW! There is some sick mud holes there. Numerous riding gear (boots, winch cable and pride) didnt make it back.
Trail from fay's to joes/antler corner t-intersection is real interesting as well.

Fayes snacks
Yes we will be serving Kubassa on a stick again like last year free of charge and as far as marking the low trail for the derby, yes we will be marking it but we probably won't have the bypasses done on that road so it will be for the extreme mudders only and not recomended for the family trail riders.

Is the trail good for a dirt bike or should I bring the quad?

I would bring a quad unless your pretty confident on it. We have bypasses for all holes but this trail has still been used for years now and even the main trail has tire groves in it.

cant wait to get to this one, me and my 3 year old son have been to notre dame, carberry and meadow portage derbies this year so far and my girlfriend was at the meadow portage one with us. Hopefully chudds will get the 2012 orange madness done up by then so we will be running 2 chudds monsters on the trails.
