Trees down

After the storm Saturday night there are trees down all over. Just wondering if you guys are going out to do a clean up. Thanks

Is this true you can be fined for moving a downed tree without permission from conservation. Seems silly. If you move the tree the trail becomes safe again. Or people will just make a trail around it making more of a mess.

I'm pretty sure you need to leave the wood there you can't haul it out but not sure about cutting a path through the fallen tress.. we've all done it many times.

I was out in the Woodridge this sunday and couldn't belive the condition of the trails.Not very safe with trees lying across the trails.My question is what club is going to apply for permits ect to repair the trails.I have been following the crap show going on with the 2 clubs in this area and I'm confused as to who is going to take charge and spearhead this project.I guess time will tell.it would be a tragedy for a fellow rider to get hurt on these trails because 2 CLUBS couldn't put aside there differences and do the right thing.

From what I have heard in the past talking with a person I know who works for Conservation. We can clear a trail if a tree has fallen across it. You cannot remove it from the area though. Just clear it. It is not free firewood. That is better than being lazy and driving around it and destroying more bush.

If I am right Gary from the Sand Hogs is working on getting those permits. He had planned on going this last Sunday but needed the permits first.

Thanks Chef makes me feel better as we have cleared alot of downed trees from trails. I would hate to think we were breaking the law. When all we were doing is making the trail safer for everyone else behind.

Good post Chef. And yes totally right. You can cut or move deadfall off the trail but must leave it off to the side. So the tree will decompose and help "feed" the other trees. And it is not free firewood. No permits are needed for deadfall. Only if it is a lot of trees down that are man made. That is something totally different. I won't be out Saturday but on Sunday I'll be out on the trails. I'm sure that people from different groups will step up and help as they are riding in their group. Cheers.

Well folks Chainsaw Charlie is back at it in Woodridge. The trail south of town going to the Rat River has 2 sections of trees down across the trail. I have contacted Conservation to get another permit again for our club to clean it up. Please use caution in that area as who knows what else this guy is up to. Hopefully the CO's have a plan in place to catch this guy as this is the 5th time he has done it and we've cleaned it up. Thanks again

I'm surprised Conservation hasn't set up a few trail cams to catch this guy. They need the kind of Trailcam that immediately e-mails the pictures via the built in cell phone. That way if he finds the camera, it would be too late bacause Conservation would already have the picture! You would think conservation would want to stop this before Charlie takes it to the next level. I sure hope no one gets hurt!

Well I obtained a permit from Conservation to clean up the trail as per the spec's layed out. They what to catch this guy as well and I'm sure they are working on a plan. I have emailed the club members and it will be cleaned up this weekend. Let's hope this madness stops ! Thanks.
