Spraying newly seeded lawn

I seeded a new lawn this spring over an old garden. The grass has come in nice however the weeds are catching up. How soon is too soon to spray with a broad leaf herbicide? I know the chemical I bought said wait a year but that seems excessive. I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with this. I haven't been cutting shorter than 4 inches and it is a nice dark green colour. I'm just lazy and don't want to pull weeds by hand. Thanks

depends on the chemical... follow the instructions.

Some say wait 1 year, some say wait until after the new grass has grown enough to be mowed 3 times.

I wouldn't worry too much about weeds in the lawn. Weeds can always be burnt off next spring. Is it worth the risk rushing it?

I regraded my back yard and seeded it probably in April the grass is nice and thick now, I think I sprayed with Buctril M back in June and only killed the weeds so I'd say your safe now.

As long as the grass isn't heat stressed, you could spray it now, but I would wait till late Aug or Sept and do it.
