Fishing north of Portage by Delta Marsh

Me and a couple buddies are thinking of heading up to do some fishing, has the flood wrecked everything, or will we be able to dock our boat? Never been there before and looking for info

You are better off to hit the Whitemud River just west of Portage and once on the river you can head to Lake Manitoba and fish. You can launch your boat at Sportsmans Campground for $5 and they have a store also with bait.We moslty use crank bait but last week we used bottom bouncer out on lake and we got perch.

Delta is still a mess and its not the best for a boat to get out on the lake...

Directions to Whitemud River
-go through Portage and take Highway1 west
-turn north on Highway 16 (yellowhead)
-about 15mins north you hit a town called Westbourne
-very small town, you will cross a bridge and then take the first road on the right, there is a Sportsmans Sign
-take gravel road to Sportsmans

It was pretty slow but I was with a buddy and his boat trolls way too fast as he has no trolling plate, right off the hop we got 2 small jack and a 3rd when we got to the lake, but that one snapped the line thanks to my friend not using his net, after that it slowed down and didn't get another bite, fish finder was going crazy with fish but no bites, and I'm chaulking that up to trolling too stinking fast, but other people we talked to on the river said it was slow and a few were still catching good, could be a combo of things why we didn't catch, but the water was nice, 9-12' deep in the river and pretty shallow at the mouth of the river, I'd go again but I think I'd anchor and cast if I was with the same group

We use bottom bouncer's but you have troll slow, last time i was out we just shut boat off on lake and let it drift with the water and caught perch all day...yeah the water is deep still which is nice...the first 3 weeks of season you get the walleye's but then it slows for them,i got a 29.5" walleye opening day.

I had suggested drifting but my friend was scared of putting his boat in th rhubarb, I tried bottom bouncers but ya, going way too fast, thanks for the info, next time I head up there I have a better idea of what works
