Going to grand forks cabelas what kind of stuff can't I bring back to do with hunting

Some people have been "caught" by the U.S border folks at their stops before you cross back into Canada. They're looking for anything firearms related, ammo, rebuilding components, even scopes from what I hear.

The Canadian border folks tell you're allowed up to 5000 rounds of ammo and so many pounds of powder but the U.S folks want you to get an export permit.

So be careful with the U.S check stops............

According to U.S. export laws you can't export firearms, firearm parts, ammunition, ammunition components (primers, powder, cases, bullets), aiming devices (scopes, open sights) from the U.S. This isn't a complete list...

You can export reloading presses, reloading dies, tumblers, media, tools and pellet guns from the U.S. Blackpowder firearms are one I'm not sure about at this point.

Homeland security does regularly setup as you exit the U.S. so they do check. A guy from B.C. was in a Washinton state court over a box of shotgun shells.]

According to the Canadian import laws you can import up to 5000 rounds of loaded ammunition for personal use. You can also import primers and powder up to a certain volume/quantitity.

It's not the Canadian side that's typically a problem. It's the U.S. export laws.

I just came back from the US last week, I bought ammo, and a rifle scope...***i went to Scheels and to Cabelas....the prices on ammo are nearly identical to CDN prices and so was everything else....unless it's on sale, i don't think your going to save any money....the riflescope was on sale and so was the oddball ammo i purchased, otherwise I have to say I was pretty disappointed in the pricing all together. Bring your Canadian Cabela's catalogue with you and compare....by the time you add duty and taxes, and gas it rarely is worth it, again unless there is something on sale, or on clearance. The only thing i find to be less expensive is firearms in general, and they won't sell them anyways....Re-loading is less, but only on some items....]

They set up checkpoints on the highway entering and leaving the US, they are parked on top of overpasses and at Pembina. You will have a hard time seing them on overpasses but they will be the ones with the big binoculars

Yeah, the sure signs that they're checking will be if you look off to the east and west of all bypasses as you approach Emerson from the south, you will see "white trucks" sitting on all side roads.

At least thats been an indicator for me the three times I was checked coming back into Canada.

Yeah, toxic nailed it. If you make it back to the Canadian border you can bring back just about anything. Heck you could legally bring back an AR15 and a glock for all our laws care... Its the americans you have to worry about. Its not worth it

I've even heard the americans will take note of canadian vehicles in the cabelas parking lot and radio back to the border to search them

I've brought a muzzle loader, bullets, all kinds of gear and supplies and never had any issue but I'm not saying it always goes well for everyone. Like mentioned by others I don't find the saving to be that great anymore, but there are definitely deals to be had and also some products you can't get in Canada. I'm sure you'll be ok

The export checks are a reality. They (Americans) set up 200 yards before the Canadian border and they search you on your way out. A box of 22 shells is enough to throw you in jail for the night and impound your vehicle. As an 'alien' in the US you have next to no rights and are not allowed to possess anything related to a firearm. Even American citizens aren't allowed to export anything firearm related without a pile of paperwork.
