Stripped
I just picked up a 1997 Kodiak 400. The oil plug was stripped, but I managed to get it off. I'm not going to reuse it, so my question is, are all Yamaha oil plugs universal for the Kodiak, Big Bears, Wolvy's?

Thanks, but I managed to get the plug out, then I bought a new replacement one. I meant the plug head was stripped, not the threads in the case. Anyways, long storey short, the oil was as black and dirty as could be. I put fresh oil in. And when I changed the oil filter, there was quite a bit of metallic shavings, almost all aluminum. The ATV only had about 1500km, on it, and for a 1997 I was skeptical, but it ran good, didn't smoke, and the drive line was good, no leaks. Anyways, when I changed the filter, while examining it, the filter had Yamaha's blue die that they put on everything - the filter was never changed! And the fill bolts for the diffs also had the blue die on them - they where never changed, no water in the diffs, just black gear oil. Ok, so now I believe the mileage.
Anyways, the engine seems to be running a little bit hotter and a little bit noiser than these older Yamahas usually do. My question is, is there a bolt in the top of the cylinder head that I can remove to see if oil is being pumped up there? Also, does anyone now the specs on the valves? I'm going to check/set them. Hopefully this quite/cools downs the engine a little. Thanks
