Can-Am or Polaris? NOT SURE

I sold the wifes tired(needed some work) honda today with 10,000km and now want to get her a replacment quad. I am down to 2 choices and cant decide what quad is best for her. She does not ride much at all (500km or under a year) and is not a mudder and would be classified as a beginner . It would be trail riding, ditches, and carrying our daughter. My replacment budget is $4800 max so here are my choices. Please shoot me some pluses and minuses.

2007 can-am outlander 500
stock with 4600kms

2005 Sportsman 500 HO
stock with 290km

Out of those 2 I would choose the can am.

More power, V twin power:)
Lighter
Will feel more nimble

The poo poo would be fine also but comparing my old 500 sportsman to the wifes 400 outty, the outty is "more fun" for trail riding but less fun for mudding

Now if only I could have gotten the ok for the commander your wife could have had a minty 400 outty lol.

Yea well between Marc and myself we are usually convincing (2 quads and a John Deere convincing!!!)
This time though Jenna had some STUPID excuse for not buying a commander right now! Something bout needing windows for the house, paying income tax, going to Brazil, I dunno cause I stopped listening after "no commander"

She says she wants one eventually so I'll try again in the spring :)

P.s. why don't you throw your budget out the window, strap your wife to your 1000 and get a new one for you? Common man, she deserves a newer machine lol

I tried that first but like your wife she thought paying bills was more important. She wasn't seeing the big picture ( new quad ). Lol.

Ain't that the ultimate question I like Polaris so you should by Polaris !! All bs a side tKe her out and test drive both of them I would really look for something with power steering there's a lot less bump steer and WAY easier on the arms. As for the 500 seen lots of those that have had the piss driven out of them and they seen to with stand a fair bit no clue on the caned ham.

I would go with the Polaris , I have put many miles on both machines and yes the canam is defiantly faster but that's the only thing it's better at IMO . They ride like crap compared to the Polaris, they feel tippy, the brakes are very noisy and the one I rode with needed a lot or work and it only had 3500 km on it. The Polaris has WAY more storage as well. For me it would be an easy decision on picking the Polaris unless having the most power is your only priority , good luck with either machine!

Rode a few hundred clicks on an 05 sportsman 500 and that thing can go through alot of stuff, think its perfect ride for the wife. Not really a good choice if your hitting the pits tho, thing is pretty much gutless if your wanting to lift the front tires.Never really rocked a lower cc outty tho so dont have that kinda incite for ya. But personally i think i would be going with the polaris. With the low clicks there should be lots of trouble free riding left in the bike.

I think Polaris would be the better choice for her. Plus 290k on a 05??

Don't do it!!! That's the discount model (no recoil, cheaper clutches, no rear work lights, etc) go look at the 05 instead

After 07 Polaris started removing stuff from their quads allowing them to sell them cheaper and cheaper ($7999,$6999,$5999).

I know they stopped installing the reverse work lights
Removed the recoil backup
Replaced the EBS roller clutches with plastic button cheaper ones
Used cheaper Carlisle tires instead of pxt's
No EFI

might be more but that's what I've noticed comparing a 06-07-10-12 models that friends and family have.
