Talking Remembrance Day Avatar

I know its a bit early yet, but as some of you recall, we had an idea put forward that on Remembrance Day/s from here on in, we would try to get as many members to change their avatars to a Poppy.

For the benefit of those who agree, and those who are occasional users of this site and do not sign in that frequently, I will try to bump it up at least once a week.

Thanks.....and I hope we have great participation on this endeavour !!

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

great idea.
I had a chance to go to france last fall and visit the graves of our family memebers that fell in WWI. Wrong time of year for poppies but still could find them growing in the cemeteries wild.

Lest we forget

My Grandfather was in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (Little Black Devils) in the first wave of soldiers on Juno beach, June 6 1944, D-Day. He made it through D-Day, and fought for six more months and was killed on Dec 12, 1944. He's buried in the Groesbeek War Cemetery in Holland. I'm pretty proud to say my Grandpa fought in the largest armed conflict in history. I'm in.

This is an awesome idea! Thanks for the reminder.

Had several relatives (great uncles and aunts) that served in WWII. Most saw combat and were fortunate enough to make it home. we all have heard stories of experiences over there but we seldom hear about the ones left behind to support the war effort.
My Great Aunt Gertie was a tough old bird, and her version of serving her country was working in a factory building machinery (guns, tanks, trucks, etc.) that was to be sent overseas! She did not take shit from anybody, and I was always known as a "little Scallywag" to her!

EYES RIGHT!
