belt life on the 1000
What kind of belt life are you guys getting, I have been checking the can am chat site, and noticed a lot of talk about slipping, smoking, and blowing up.I was going to get a 1000 but what can I do make it more reliable, like my cat is.

Drive in low range unless you are on smooth hard ground or a road. Can-am's do 40mph in low range so it works well as your primary gear. If you get into the peanut butter don't be to proud to get a pull out and you will be just fine.
The guys that know how to drive and don't smoke there belt generally do not post on the forums that is why it might seem to be a common problem. If you do want to upgrade the clutching I recommend a clutch kit from QSC. Have had great results with their product. If you want to spend a bit more you can try their complete primary. I really like mine, it seems to grip the belt great and give a bit more bottom end. Also with the QSC primary you do not have to raise the engagement RPM to prevent belt glazing as it has a lower starting ratio making it more trail friendly. ![]()

Myst3ry is selling his Dalton clutch kit....makes a nice difference and its adjustable for different size tires. Warren01 has some great advice too.

30" tires and I am on my second year with my original belt. I use low unless I'm road riding. I think majority of the issues are rider caused not lack of durability from can am.
I also only used 1 belt in 3 years with my 500 poo on 30's

So I should not be getting scared of blowing belts if I use my common sense, I am just getting kind of getting nervous paying over 16000 plus taxes and having a machine that eats belts. I never had any issues with my cat.

I wouldn't worry. The biggest problem I see is the can ams have so much power that people just leave them in high range.
Just remember that a belt will be close to $200 and youll have no issues remembering to use low.

Never had issue with my belt on mine. Had stock clutching and smoked the belt. Thought it was toast. Took cover off and it was fine and I had even went and bought a new belt prior to removing cover thinking it was shot. Nope was just like new. I had come from owning a brute where when you see smoke coming out of snorkels it is game over lol.
Nothing wrong with the 1000 clutching to be honest from factory. I now have a full Qsc primary clutch and STM secondary clutch and I don't think you could slip a belt with them installed unless its shimmed incorrectly but it still grabs hard Trust me. Lol. Long story short make sure you break it all in correctly belt included and you should never ever have to worry bout it.
