You will put extra load on drive shaft ,and it will be hard to plane, the boat out.But depends on the size of motor u are running.

It will pretty much feel sucked out cause it will not plane out right. I don't know kind of motor you got but some of the Merc's you could remove the lower unit and make a it a short shaft.

You can also build a transom plate up to accomodate the 5 inches lost and bolt it to the transom.

Wendigo will become famous soon enough
You will also have a tendency to mate with dredded skag and prop eater. Like Pipes says, beef up your transom. Probably more economical than reducing the bottom end which I believe would entail swapping out the drive shaft. A higher transom is much better in keeping small waves out of the back of the boat and for backtrollng.

I got a deal on a 9.9 Honda long shaft about seven years ago and thinking I would put it on my twelve foot lund I bought it. Didn't work. I built up the transom with plywood and a 2 X 6 and it worked that way but was a pain so someone else got a deal on a 9.9 and I bought a new short shaft Honda.

Also you have to becareful as the prop will sit lower in the water and feel like the boat will want to flip when turning. It will work for a short term solution but long term change one or the other out.

it will also create drag on the shaft, and water will burble up and into the boat in front of the transom. I almost sunk my 14' with a 9.9 before I realized how much water was coming in.

I took two pcs of 1" plywood, the same profile as the transom (except higher), drilled through the transom filled the holes with caulking and then shoved some bolts through and tightened them down. Ran the boat like that with the 9.9 and then with a 20 for 8 years without a hitch.
