Coyotes

Do you need a trappers licence to hunt coyotes? Thats what I am getting out of the 2006 hunting guide?

Are there any restrictions on ordinary folks getting a trapper licence?

Unless you've had one in the past, you need to take the course first.

wouldn't this be the same as a deer license? The hunters guide says if you haven't had one before you need to do a hunters safety course, yet they still sell tags to everyone no questions asked, unless your under 18.

I don't know if it includes coyotes, but you can shoot a wolf if you hold a big game tag.

They do have a tracking system but it only goes back so far. I had a license as a kid for trapping weasels, muskrats and the odd fox but haven't had one since. I bought one this year after talking to
MB Con and wanting to do some serious coyote hunting. They said I just had to sign saying I had one before but recommended that I read the regs. I may not be in the system cuz it was at least 15 years ago and don't know exactly how far it goes back but as long as you aren't real young they pretty much have to take your word for it I guess.

Northern Swamp is on a distinguished road
Question???
what do you guys do with the yotes? I would love to hunt them, but I generally don't shoot what I don't eat so I need a reason so I can justify hunting them. I have tons of them around my area

You can sell or give them to a local trapper. You should be able to find one in your area.

He lives in the city but is out there every weekend. Traps up north of Riverton. I'll ask him for sure and then let you know. Known him since we were 12.

I agree. If a 'yote or wolf so much as looked at me funny, no amount of legislation could keep me from shooting. In fact this goes for any critters capable of harming humans. I would hope the rules for shooting an animal in self defense in Manitoba are different than for shooting humans. If they're not, I might prefer getting killed by a predator
....I'm kidding, of course, but I do have some reservations about that law that if someone is about to kill you, and you shoot him in the arse, you'd be going to jail.

No need to worry randyhood, 'yotes ain't going to bite ya and I've been very close (almost face to face) with a wolf and he didn't get aggressive either. Now a pack might be a little different but I still don't see the need to start blasting unless they are showing signs of aggression, then that would be a different story.

I've watched coyotes up real close when out deer hunting and sitting still. I've seen them poking around brush and rock piles looking for mice or voles I figure. Kinda interesting to watch. I like seeing stuff like that. Ever seen a weasel catching mice? Pretty cool. Didn't look much more threatening than a corgi. Had a pretty good coat (warmth wise) on it but nothing I'd want to wear. What do they do with the pelts?

I called this one in Saturday AM. -40 windchill makes for some hungry yotes. 15 minutes of calling along a big slough and it came on the run. Almost got too close, 25 yard shot and home for coffee by 10!
